Personalized Information Retrieval in Bibster, a Semantics-Based Bibliographic Peer-to-Peer System

چکیده
Bibster is a semantics-based Peer-to-Peer system for exchanging bibliographic data among researchers. Bibster exploits ontologies in data storage, query formulation, query routing and answer presentation. While the original Bibster system assumed a globally shared domain ontology, we here describe extensions to the Bibster system, that allow to learn personalized ontologies from the local bibliographic metadata. These personal ontologies can not only be used for subsequently classifying the bibliographic metadata, but also for supporting an improved query refinement process.

Personalized Information Access in a Bibliographic Peer-to-Peer System
The Bibster system is an application of the use of semantics in Peer-to-Peer systems, which is aimed at researchers that share bibliographic metadata. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of recommender functionality in the Bibster system which allows personalized access to the bibliographic metadata available in the Peer-to-Peer network. These functions are based on a semant...
متن کاملBibster - A Semantics-Based Bibliographic Peer-to-Peer System
This paper describes the design and implementation of Bibster, a Peer-to-Peer system for exchanging bibliographic data among researchers. Bibster exploits ontologies in data-storage, query formulation, query-routing and answer presentation: When bibliographic entries are made available for use in Bibster, they are structured and classified according to two different ontologies. This ontological...
متن کاملService-Oriented Semantic Peer-to-Peer Systems
In Peer-to-Peer data sharing systems, peers typically play equal roles and have equal capabilities. From the service perspective, peers provide a single service. For this reason, there is no need to explicitly model services. We argue, that for knowledge sharing systems, we need an effective combination of the capabilities of the peers both in terms of the services as well as the content they p...
متن کاملCollaborative and Usage-Driven Evolution of Personal Ontologies
Large information repositories as digital libraries, online shops, etc. rely on a taxonomy of the objects under consideration to structure the vast contents and facilitate browsing and searching (e.g., ACM topic classification for computer science literature, Amazon product taxonomy, etc.). As in heterogenous communities users typically will use different parts of such an ontology with varying ...
متن کاملSemantic technologies for distributed information systems
In recent years we have seen a tremendous development of distributed information systems, both in terms of scale, as well as in terms of the types of distributed information systems, where classical approaches such as distributed and federated databases are complemented with Peer-to-Peer and Grid technology. When building such distributed information systems, we are faced with three typical cha...
